WATER POLO

I have a great love of water polo, it is my favourite sport! Do you know what water polo is? In this text I will talk about what water  polo is, it's history and what countries water polo is popular in and who are the best players.

Firstly, so what is water polo? Water polo is a team water sport. The game consists of 4 periods of 8 minute slots, making one game 32 minutes.  The two teams attempt to score goals by throwing the ball into their opponents goals. A team consists of 6 field players and one goalkeeper. Water polo is typically played in an all-deep pool. In water polo you can only use one hand but the goalkeeper can use both. Special equipment for water polo  includes a water polo ball, which floats on the water, numbered and  colored caps and goals. The game itself can be quite high scoring if the opposing team is weak, but more normal scores are expected when two good teams are playing against each other.

Secondly, where does this sport come from? The history of water polo as a team sport began as a show of strength and swimming skill in late 19th century England and Scotland, where water sports and racing exhibitions were a feature of festivals. Men's water polo was among the first team sports introduced at the modern Olympic games in 1900.The rules of water polo were originally developed in the late nineteenth century in Great Britain by William Wilson. Wilson is believed to have been the First Baths Master of the Arlington Baths Club in Glasgow. The first games of 'aquatic football' were played at the Arlington in the late 1800s (the Club was founded in 1870), with a ball made of Indian rubber. This "water rugby" came to be called "water polo" based on the English pronunciation of the Balti word for ball, pulu. Early play allowed strength, wrestling and holding opposing players underwater to recover the ball; the goalie stood outside the playing area and defended the goal by jumping in on any opponent attempting to score by placing the ball on the deck. It's not as rough as it used to be, but it is still quite rough and exciting, this is why I like it so much!

Thirdly, so where do they play water polo? The countries where water polo is the most popular are Croatia, Hungary, Serbia and Montenegro, most of the best players come from these countries and around 10,000 people go to  see the matches. The skills of the following players; Filip Filipovic (Serbia), Felipe Perrone (Brasil), Toni Azevedo (Brasil/USA), Soro (Serbia),Daniel  Varga (hungary ), Bret Bonanni (USA) are  admired by thousands of fans around the world as well as their home counties. These guys are like heroes in their home countries. They amaze audiences with their great technique, their brute strength and their ability to score lots of goals.

In conclusion water polo is a team sport played in the water by 7 players with a series of rules, it originates from Scotland and is played worldwide, with some of the best players coming from Croatia, Hungary, Serbia and Montenegro where this sport is really popular. I really love the sport and love to go training two to three times a week as a result. So I ask you, do you want to get fit, have fun and de-stress? If so, join your local team! Water Polo is the  best!

Why should you play water polo?

Water polo is a really fun water sport, where you can play with your family or friends, get fit and build muscle and develop social skills and hard work. In this text I'm going to talk about 2 reasons why you should play water polo.
Firstly, water polo is a sport where you can have a lot of fun with your family and friends. I play water polo with my father and my brother and we have a lot of fun especially  when we go to different cities to play tournaments. When I joined water polo I found it hard to make friends but I made some good friends in water polo, which helped making the practices really. Now making friends is easier for me .
Secondly, you can get fit playing water polo. Water polo is a really hard sport, meaning that you have to  work hark during the practices and swim a lot, making you lose a lot of weight, build muscle and helping you understand the value of hard work, because the more you work the more you will improve . I joined water polo 3 years ago and I can say that I am stronger than I used to be and I can swim more.
In conclusion, you should play water polo because it is a really fun sporty, where you can play with you family and friends and also develop social skills and be healthy.

As you can see in the picture my team and I are having a lot fun during a small tournament that we had 1 year ago.

WATER POLO INTERVIEW

We interviewed Ricardo Perrone(Kiko), a Brazilian water polo player. We have asked some questions about his career, water polo in Brazil and
water polo in world wide context.

Kiko Perrone is a Brazilian born water polo player, who has moved to Spain to play professional water polo and also played for the Spanish
national team with his brother, who is now the captain of the Brazilian national team and one of the best players in the world, Felipe Perrone.
Kiko played the in the 2007 Olympics games for Spain and now plays for a team in Brazil called Fluminense.

Interviewer: Why did you start playing water polo?
Kiko Perrone: I started playing water polo because my father used to play and he used to take me to the practices and his games. Gradually I started enjoying the sport. Also, swimming was good to my health as I had asthma. Another good reason was that I thought swimming was very boring, so, as soon as I had an opportunity I changed to water polo.

Interviewer: What do you think about water polo in Brazil and water polo worldwide ?
Kiko Perrone: I like Water Polo because it is a small sport and athletes can play at the top level without having to drop out of school or do the enormous sacrifices that the most popular sports require. Furthermore, there is a family atmosphere that only small sports can have. In my opinion, we should accept that water polo is not a big sport, and take advantage of it. Positioning the sport for families and athletes who like sports but want to see their children grow academically and professionally as well.
Interviewer: What do you need to be a good player?
Kiko Perrone: For me the main feature is the constant dedication. Just training hard every day and for many years, you can be better than others. You can only improve a little bit every day, every workout you lose or do low intensity / concentration is a workout that you will never recover. Over time it makes a huge difference.
Interviewer: What was the most exiting game you played and why?
Kiko Perrone: It was the game for the bronze medal in the 2007 world championship. We won against Serbia after two penalties rounds and we guaranteed the medal and a place in the Beijing Olympic games.
Interviewer: What you think about the water polo projects in Brazil?
Kiko Perrone: I think it's interesting to have a strong team to have a  media exposure during the Olympics games. when I think about water polo as a sport and if I could choose where to invest the money, I would invest the money in the young generations. I think that the time to invest in the athletes is between 15 and 20 years old and during this time you would help the good athletes to get an opportunity to study in the US or in Europe. As a result, the national team would have a good team without having to invest a lot of money and the athletes would have a great academic opportunity.
Interviewer: And do you think Brazil is going to do well in the 2016 Olympic games?
Kiko Perrone: I think so. Brazil has a really good coach,  that straightened the team spinal column together with  Soro (goalkeeper) and Josip (center). The team is doing a good preparation and have Felipe to lead the team in the water. It all adds up to the home crowd and a little luck, giving us a good chance to reach and win the decisive game of the quarter-finals.

My team Vika and I, we have been using the Winner waterpolo ball for over 5 months and I can say that it is a really good ball with a really good grip and durability. I recommend buying this ball that is as good as the Mikasa ball. We bought two different sizes for the boys and for the girls both of them are really good.

The ball is made out of durable rubber and you can buy the ball in their website: http://shop.kezmu.hu/. In the website you can buy a lot things from waterpolo balls to fotball balls and other things.
